The Summer League is now at the midway point, with 4 of the 8 events played. Leading the way is Steve Gibbs & Andy Wosket on 21 points, closely followed by Steve Smith & Adrian Matthews on 18 points. With only the 5 best results of the 8 events counting for the league, it is still all to play for.
Steve Harris & Ian Oliver won the Event 1 Greensomes, Steve Smith & Adrian Matthews won the Event 2 Betterball, and Steve Gibbs & Andy Wosket won both the Event 3 Scramble, and the Event 4 Aggregate.
Event 5 is a straight Foursomes format on Wednesday 6th July.
Following one of the most closely fought championship in years, Ben Stokes birdied the final hole to to take the title with a 146 gross for the 36 holes. Ben and Ian Atkinson were tied for the lead after the first round with a pair of 74’s. Steve Gibbs, Steve Mayor and David Sarson were only a shot away with opening 75’s. But in a dramatic final round run in, Ben clinched victory from Ian by one shot, hitting a 72 to finish on +6.
Karl Randall took the Nett Championship with two rounds of nett 68 off 14 handicap.
Overall, the club championship was a great day all round. A fantastic competition, and lots of fun had by all at the evening BBQ run by Andy Wilson & Tom Downey.
