Seniors Report 20th May

The Seniors Team have to date played six inter club matches this season. Four matches have been away and two at home. We have lost 3 and won 3, one of these being an away match. Tha margins have been close in all the games and the quality of golf has been exceptional. I am really proud to lead a wishaw team with a real competitive cutting edge who play in a friendly and sociable atmosphere. This weeks Match Reports: Tues 15… Purley Chase (A)..Lost 5 – 2. The score sounds much worse than it was, as each match was closely contested. It was either won or lost by a narrow margin. The course was difficult with numerous hidden ditches on the fairways so ideally suited for the home team. Weather conditions were blustery with the occasional hail shower. It was a challenging course and in spite of the result, an enjoyable day. The Wishaw Team acquitted itself well. Thurs 17…Oakridge (H)…Won 5.5  –  1.5. The team excelled itself against some formidable opposition. Another hugely successful day with excellent course conditions and a big thank you to the catering and bar staff for a first class service. The opposition were really impressed with the course and the service, so much so that at least 2 of their members are considering defecting. Well Done Everyone Pete Spencer Seniors Captain

Joe Defends Scratch Title

Joe Lawlor successfully defended his Scratch Team Cup Title on Saturday 25th March. Joe shot 32 points off scratch to claim victory, with Tom Downey finishing Runner Up.

New SSS for the Ladies

Following a reassessment of the Ladies course, the local union have altered the Standard Scratch of the Ladies course from 71 to an SSS of 73 (level par). This shows the course to be more difficult than was previously judged by the union, and should improve the handicaps of the Ladies. Please note the Score Cards will say 71 for the time being until the next batch arrives.

Wine & Feather

Ben Stokes, Clive Conroy, Ian Atkinson, Colin Sarson, Martyn Power and Martin Stokes, will all be dining in style this Christmas as winners of the Wine and Feather Series for 2011. Well Done and enjoy your festive feast!!

Scratch Team Promoted!!

Following a long wait for other matches to be played, Wishaw have finished Runners Up behind Cleobury Mortimer in Division 7, and promoted to Division 6 for next season. As well as Cleobury, Wishaw will be playing Swindon, Oxley Park, North Warks, North Worcs and Branston. Congratulations to the squad for a fantastic achievement and good luck for the 2012 season.

Halloween Gruesomes

This weekend could turn very ugly as the annual gruesomes competition approaches. The format is very similar to greensomes with both players driving off, then picking one ball to continue with, playing alternate shots until the hole is completed. However, the evil twist in gruesomes is that instead of you picking the best drive to play on with, your opponents will choose the worst for you. Pick your opposing pair wisely as things could turn nasty!!!!
